Additional Information
This service is being provided at no costs to residents. However, any fees your provider charges to receive text messages may still apply.
Alert Types:
- Interruption of water or sewer service, including boil-water notices
- This alert type will be sent when water or sewer service has been interrupted.
- The last time sewer service was interrupted was during Hurricane Harvey in September 2017 when the sewage treatment plant was flooded.
- The last time water service was interrupted was during the February 2021 winter freeze. Note that the MUD has two water sources (WHCRWA surface water and a well) and can run on either source. The MUD also has backup generator power and can run when electric service has been interrupted as long as natural gas is being supplied to the facility and the generators are running.
- Mandatory drought restrictions
- The 2011 drought peaked with recommended water conservation restrictions in the MUD, but did not rise to the level of MANDATORY restrictions. The issuance of a mandatory drought restriction alert is expected to be rare.
- Changes to trash and recycling pickup days
- Alerts will be sent when trash service is interrupted by scheduled holidays or if collection is delayed because of equipment failure. Resident can expect to receive approximately 6 messages per year about trash and recycling.
- One annual test text message at the beginning of hurricane season
- If no messages have been sent in the months leading up to hurricane season, one “test” message will be sent and accompanied by a post on this website and nextdoor.com so that resident can verify that they are receiving the messages.
These guidelines are current and are subject to change as conditions require to notify residents of urgent issues.
