MUD 136 Report
By Barry Greer, Vice President
At our January, 2020 meeting the Board reviewed water and sanitary sewer operations from the previous month, trash and recycling services and the current update from the District’s Engineer pertaining to the Capital Improvement Project planned for the MUD 136 water plant (that is a part of the overall Asset Management Plan), in addition to other items pertinent to our District.
Our District Engineer announced that they have secured final approval of the plans for the new motor control building in our water plant facility. The project will be issued for bids soon and work should begin later this year. We continued our discussions pertaining to the rehabilitation (through a method termed “slip-lining”) of the 18” diameter sanitary sewer trunk line paralleling Pine Forest Lane. Through diagnostic methods performed under the direction of our District Operator (MOC), it has been determined that this line has experienced deterioration to the point that we (and our consultants) believe that the “slip-lining” should performed in the near future. Cost estimates are to be prepared for presentation at the next MUD 136 Board meeting.
The installation of a new water fountain adjacent to the north playground should be accomplished by the end of April of this year. This is a combined effort by HCMUD 136 and the Deerfield Community Association.
As a continued reminder, the West Harris County Regional Water Authority has instituted it’s 2020 base surface water rate increase that results in a current charge of $3.60 per 1,000 gallons. And, again this charge is in addition to our MUD 136 rates that remain unchanged from the previous year. As encouraged in the past by our previous Board member, Jay Singleton, we continue to emphasize the importance of water conservation of this most valuable resource.
We voted on and approved of the District Insurance proposal from Arthur J. Gallagher Risk Management Services, Inc., in our December meeting subject to one revision. The revised proposal was presented at our January meeting.
Our next meeting will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 6 P.M. in the Deerfield Recreation Center. Please attend should you have any issues or concerns that need to be brought to the attention of your Board.
